| Yet again tempted by "buy it now" on German Ebay I've acquired an LGB Feuriger Elias and a Kleine Dicke. Whilst they were reasonably priced anyway, a temptation was that they were fitted with ZIMO digital decoders. On checking the Zimo website I see that they should be LGB compatable so I went ahead. On arrival they work fine on analog and accept CV commands but simply zoom off at full speed when put anywhere near an LGB MTS track. I've contacted Zimo but so far without success. The German Vendor has already given me a substantial refund so I'm happy to keep them even as analog or to fit new LGB decoders, but before I rip out the offending electronics I wondered if any of the DCC buffs on here might recognise the electronics and offer advice. I've tried setting CV8 to 9 which is the ZIMO command for a hard reset for LGB compatability. The chip acknowledges the command, but still performs in the same way! HELP Here are the Kleine Dicke boards .... _________________ Brian

| Brian I have just checked my Zimo chipped Stainz lok. CV8 on my lok is set at a value of 145. The lok was set up by Ernst Peyker in Austria (with a SUZI interface married up to a Dietz sound chip) I run on MTS II and it works fine - Herr Peyker set it up for it. _________________ Excellent Austrian narrow gauge in North Wales.

| I don't know much about these but - cv8 = 145 is the ZIMO id for their decoders, the cv is read only. Zimo blurb says that changing cv8 to either 8 or 9 just resets to factory defaults, in this instance inputting 9 resets to LGB defaults. This is where you may have some luck, it resets to 14 speed steps, I don't know about MTS but am guessing it may run at 28 or 128 steps.
It seems that CV29 bit 1 should be set to 1 for 28 steps, I have no idea how you migt change to 128 steps.
I got this from a "MX69 Zimo" decoder instruction sheet , might be worth trying, many peole seem to fall foul of the speed step thing especially when it comes to sound decoders.
2p thankyou _________________ Wake me up by noon please.

| Thanks for the info guys!
Reading the Zimo instructions CV8 always resets to 145 whatever you input, I've tried inputting "9" the supposed LGB hard reset.
From your loco Paul does the Zimo-Suzi- Dietz configuration look like what I have ?? Funnily the loco was sold as without sound, but when it arrived it has a sound chip and speaker. they were asking another 30 euro for a sound version!
I would approach Ernst but I'm not in his best books after the Massoth Rail bender Saga and getting him to quote for a few things that I've not progressed with! _________________ Brian

| Congrats on your Kleine Dicke.

However I have a Frank S with the same set up, and being easier to dismantle, I'll have a look inside the tender tonight and take a pic. I can read out all the CV s on my Sprog II, but its a long list - I guess there is a way of saving it and e mailing .......... _________________ Excellent Austrian narrow gauge in North Wales.

Couldn't agree more!
But it is fun when you can control 9 loco's on the same layout with a single hand held remote! And I enjoy the electronics challenge!
Yes it's my first Kleine Dicke and I'm quite taken with the little loco. _________________ Brian

That would be brilliant Paul if it's not too much trouble, I'm not familiar with Sprog but perhaps you could download the list into an Excel file or something similar?
Much appreciate the help _________________ Brian

I appreciate the electronics challenge part - I feel the same way when I put together my control circuit for my battery power conversion. But controlling 9 locos at the same time? Although pretty cool, it seems like work to me, so I'll stick with running one or two at a time. Besides, I don't envision ever having anything as complex as the Linz Gstadt Bahn in my backyard. But to each his own - that's the beauty of our hobby.
BTW, one of the things I like about the Kleine Dicke- the boiler is big enough to stuff 12 AA batteries plus a remote receiver and a speed controller into. Makes a nice battery conversion. Can't do that with a Stainz. _________________ Bill Wray

Here is the list of CVs...........I know that on this loco CV 40 is the loco address (set at 16), other than that, I would have to look up the Zimo instructions to find out what is what

| Finally a response from Zimo ...
This is a very old decoder, not DCC protocol … so it cannot work.

| Hi Patrick
Wondered if the so called "decoders" had reached you yet?
And whether you've had any luck with them? _________________ Brian

| Brian, I got back here on Friday and wifey had picked up from Correo office. I have not been successful in getting any info so far. How did you know they are Zimo ? I can't even see that anywhere.
I did PM you yesterday via GSC.
Thanks they were really well packed - all those stamps too, very pretty.
