PostSubject: Turntable - Painted at last   Mon Apr 27, 2009 8:48 pm

A number of years ago (is it 3 or 4? Embarassed ) the very kindly Mr Hibbs (of this very forum) gave me a turntable that he had no use of,

The turntable was made by Imagimonde

I knew I wanted a turntable on the layout - but wasn't sure where until today.............

Here's the unpainted turntable

With it being a fairly miserable day today with the rain - and I was off work - I thought I'd have a go at painting it, I used a mixture of brush painting, dry brushing and spraying - all with Games Workshop acrylics.

Here is the turntable painted

Hopefully over the summer (If we get one in England Crying or Very sad ) - I'll be working on this area to turn it into a coaling yard, engine storage shed, ash pits etc. It will be a very "dirty grey" in colour across most of the area as it will look like most things will be covered in ash and soot - Well that's the idea Very Happy

'll have a number of buildings to create and weather - along with some walls to separate the coaling yard from some nearby industry

Very nice Ian, glad to hear from you and I'm pleased it will ultimately come in useful.

What else is happening at Withy Grove junction these days?

Nice work Ian, looking forward to seeing these buildings develop.

Congrats too on your G-Rail award - some very impressive weathering on that Spremberger loco Cool

Not a lot of big changes Carl (Well not yet anyway........ Very Happy )

Have added a "small" amount of track that now gives me 2 loops round the garden and at one point (in front of the mountain) the loops have parallel tracks - 4 contra- rotating loco's is a nice sight Wink

Have a bit of maintenance and finishing off of the rack line (moved to Massoth control) and hopefully some major work on adding a passing loop and a new station in front of the mountain and removing the old station and passing loop (gives SWMBO a "bit" of the garden back).

Been mostly busy doing a spot of trial and error on bashing the Spremberger that Clive referred to (thanks Clive Very Happy ) and practicing the "dark arts" of dry brushing, washing, and applying rust to models.

Wanna see some pics? Very Happy

PostSubject: Weathered Tipplers   Sat May 02, 2009 11:58 am

Finally got some time to do this -Been hectic at work and home Sad

I'll start off with the weathered tipplers which are the wagons for the Spremberger to pull

I made a train of 5 tipplers, 3 x Hartland Loco Works and 2 LGB

Here's an "as supplied HLW tippler and along with it a tippler treated with rust powder and some scenic rust

I made up some loads for a couple of the tipplers from bits out of the junk box - The most satisfying pieces of junk were made by "de-constructing" a toy Triumph motorbike and rusting up the wheels, exhausts, mud guards etc.

Here's one without a load, but with some fuel cans (whitemetal from Steve at Back 2 Bay 6)

And another with some rusting chain

Last few pics of the tipplers - All were painted and rusted by hand using Games Workshop Acrylics, Rob Bennets rusting powder and "Scenic Rust"

And finally a tippler out on the line

Great set of pics Ian - the first one shows the huge transformation from the off-the-shelf item to a very realistic looking bit of stock. I reckon you've got that weathering lark cracked, mate!

Just a couple of pics to update you on the Engine shed area of the layout at Withy Grove Junction

Here's what it looked like

And here's what it looks like now.................

The Landrover is a Burago 1/24th diecast model that I've weathered slightly

The engine shed is a scratch build out of 6mm WBP Ply, coated with fibreglass resin in and out, then sprayed with cellulose car paints

The coal staithes are made from solid pieces of UPVC barge boards

I have some pictures showing the making of these if you're interested

Thanks for looking
