just because I'm waiting for the funds to build up to get some more track, I dont want things to come to a standstill. Today I concentrated on the paper mill. I decided the area was not big enough to support a 15" gauge steam loco so the guys will just have to push the wagons around!!

Actually that is probably sound safety practice, Mikey - Not sure if fireless locos existed in 1910 France, but certainly they were used at the former Bowater paper mill in Sittingbourne (what is now the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway). Obviously stray sparks are not a particularly good idea where large amounts of highly combustible materials are held/processed.

Excellent pics again, by the way....

I suspect that back then, it was more about the protection of the raw materials and finished goods than the well-being of the workforce! I seem to remember some time ago there was something on You-Tube with a wagon being 'propelled' by a walking figure? Whilst the wagon was in motion, the figure appeared to be 'walking' with it... ingenious

In fact, here it is:

Shame of it is I can't find the video clip....

yes i remember that Clive.Couldn't believe my eyes when i saw it. ('twas by a frenchman,if my memory serves correct, ) I guess that my papermill is there to add a bit of a 'raison d'etre' for the presence of the tramway, but having added it,it's got to look right!!

BTW cheque posted tomorrow!! (had to convince Ma, the only one who's still got a UK account!!)

Hence the expression .... "Run of the mill" Very Happy (sorry about that)

Looks right .... but unfortunately practically impossible to animate. I wonder if diesel would be the right sort of traction either ... with oily fumes getting to the paper ... ??? I reckon manual labour or horse looks the most feasible of all the options ... electric or battery traction perhaps ???

I'm back.
....No need to correct you Mikey. That's another splendid diaorama taking shape.

However. I had some interest in paper mills a while ago as I had been teaching some employees of Arjo Wiggins at their mill (papetrie) in Jouy sur Morin. No much railway there and most internal transport was done with handcarts but that is a small and fairly modern production mill.

Now what might interest you that is not too far from me is the famous old giant mill at Corbeil-d'Essonnes.
They did have an extensive internal railway......

That is a fascinating system, some of the pointwork is a bit of a puzzle to me.
