The 2076 is a great candidate for battery power and remote control because it's chunky boiler yields plenty of room. The older version I have had a rather large circuit board (for the lights and smoke) and I had to remove the lead weight to have enough room for everything. I was able to stuff fishing weights all over the place to compensate.
I use a 11.1 v Li-Ion battery pack (supposedly rated at 6500 mAh - which I think is a stretch). I made the conversion before I knew about the HobbyKing stuff, so I used a Critter Control from G Scale Graphics coupled with one of those push-button 4-channel remotes available on eBay. Your conversion takes up less space than mine did. I'll have to see if I have any photos of mine.
