| Hi can anyone help...
I've just bought a s/h Track Cleaning Loco - the Digital version but it came with no Instructions. I've worked out that you switch on the track cleaner motor with F1 but I can't seem to control the speed of the cleaner motor with the potentiometer on top of the loco. In all other respects the loco works fine.
Does anyone have the instructions for this loco? Does the potentiometer not work under digital control? Is it possible to preset the speed of the motor with a particular CV address?

| Brian, for such cases always check www.gbdb.de (Garten Bahn Data Bank). It have mostly the instructions and other documents.
In this case for the LGB 20670:
Here is the PDF with the instructions: http://www.gbdb.info/data/manual/LGB/20670.pdf
Exploded view drawing: http://www.gbdb.info/data/zeichnung/LGB/20670.pdf
The PDF "expert instructions": http://www.gbdb.info/data/expertenanleitung/LGB/20670.pdf
And las but not least, the decoder installation: http://www.gbdb.info/data/decodereinbau/LGB/20670.pdf
I don't know about the potentiometer, but perhaps this last document can help you with it. _________________ Paul |

| Apols if you already know this
Under analog running the potentiometer controls the top speed of the loco motor - the cleaner motor runs at whatever the controller is set to, and you control the amount of cleaning by using the pot to slow the loco down. Mine is an old one, and as far as I can tell the cleaner motor goes full speed on digital without any means of regulating it, in other words the pot is redundant.
If there is a CV to slow the cleaner motor relative to the loco, please post as I would rather run it a bit quiter but longer under digi. |

Having read the instructions linked by Paul. I now understand that there is NO cleaning motor speed control under Digital, it runs at max speed by default. This appears to be the LGB recommended operating method - utilising the loco's driving speed to control the amount of cleaning!
I've also taken a look at the basic CV table and whist there are a host of CV's that can be programmed they all relate to programming the loco's driving profile as per other loco's.
I suppose with research and if the F1 function has a voltage output CV as do lighting for example, it may be possible to slow it down.
For the time being I shall try it as recommended, at least with digital you only need turn on the cleaner once you've got the loco running at the desired speed.
Out of interest how satisfied are you with the track cleaning performance of the unit? _________________ Brian

| I have an old analogue track cleaning loco that I changed to digital, but I just put 2 decoders in one for the loco traction and one for the cleaning wheels = 2 different addresses. Works well so far. |

| just remeber to clean BEhind the cleaning wheels, the nylon flanged wheels delaminate, and the resulting black nylion "string" ends up rapping round the axles, between the wheel/motorblock,..if left, it will melt due to the friction, and be drawn into the brass bearing axle surport.. it then sets.. which will lead to the axles seaseing up,not enought to stopthe cleaning motor, but it will draw more amps to turn..eventually, it will blow the digical/main bords, after the motor has been dameaged the results? new bearing axle required new motor required new main bord required.. i know, because ive rebuilt 5 so far for freinds..who all new best just check behind, and and save your self the greif.. my track cleaning loco isa gem, i look after it |

| Thanks - great advice Mike. I'll certainly check it after each run! I gave it the first outing today after clearing snow and it works brilliantly - saves all that bending! But it's certainly noisy - is that normal? _________________ Brian

| yes, itsnormal, as is the tiger stripes when its started cleaning, i set mine off at a slow walking speed, then go make a brew, sit down, relax, and leave it running till its been round a few times.. dont try to clean up hill, clean down hill, not in the wet either, after a few times around, the tiger strips (caused by the bounsceing cleaning wheels) will go, leaveing clean track..trust me, im a idoit..never add weight to the cleaning end, its ment to bounsce up and down as it cleans..the cleaning wheels (gray bit)is made off foam, stronger than dirt, weaker than brass, so it only removes the dirt.. i criinge when folks say use sand papper.. |
